Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 1 package Golden Oreos (regular size, not family pack)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2/3 cup strawberry shortcake crumbs

Coating

  • 2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable shortening (divided: 1 tsp for white chocolate, 1 tsp for candy melts)
  • 1/2 cup red candy melts

Garnish

  • 1/3 cup strawberry shortcake crumbs (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Pulse Oreos: Place the Golden Oreos into a food processor and pulse until they become very fine crumbs, ensuring even texture for the truffle base.
  2. Blend with Cream Cheese: Add the softened cream cheese to the food processor with Oreo crumbs and pulse until fully combined into a smooth, consistent mixture.
  3. Prepare Batter: Transfer the mixture to a bowl, then stir in 2/3 cup of strawberry shortcake crumbs and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest for a refreshing citrus note. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour to firm up.
  4. Roll Truffles: Once chilled, scoop the mixture with a 1 or 2 tablespoon scoop and roll into smooth, even balls with your hands.
  5. Chill Balls: Place the rolled truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet or cutting board. Refrigerate again for 1 hour to set.
  6. Melt White Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening. Microwave on medium heat for 30 seconds, stir well, then repeat until chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  7. Coat Truffles: Using two forks or a toothpick inserted into each truffle, dip them individually into the melted white chocolate to fully coat. Let excess chocolate drip off and place on a waxed paper lined baking sheet to set.
  8. Chill Coated Truffles: Refrigerate the coated truffles for 30 minutes to allow the chocolate shell to harden.
  9. Melt Candy Melts: Place red candy melts and remaining 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening into a bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and if needed, microwave again until smooth.
  10. Drizzle Decoration: Transfer the melted red candy melts into a resealable sandwich bag, cut a small tip off the corner, then drizzle over the cooled white chocolate coated truffles. Immediately sprinkle strawberry shortcake crumbs on top for a colorful finish.
  11. Final Chill and Serve: Chill the decorated truffles for an additional hour to allow the drizzle to set. Serve chilled for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for the smoothest mixture.
  • Using Golden Oreos maintains the light color theme, but you can experiment with other Oreo flavors.
  • Chilling the truffles multiple times is important for firm texture and clean chocolate coatings.
  • Vegetable shortening helps to thin the chocolate for easier dipping and smooth finishes.
  • Store truffles in the refrigerator and consume within 3-4 days for optimal freshness.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, crush Oreos finely by placing them in a sealed bag and using a rolling pin, then mix thoroughly.
