Shrimp Burger Patties
- 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Guacamole
- 1 avocado, mashed
- 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
- 1 small jalapeño, minced (optional)
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Additional Ingredients
- Burger buns (your choice)
- Lettuce and tomato, for serving
- Prepare the Shrimp: In a food processor, add the raw shrimp and pulse until coarsely chopped. Transfer the chopped shrimp to a mixing bowl.
- Mix Ingredients: Add breadcrumbs, chopped cilantro, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, beaten egg, and lime juice to the shrimp in the bowl. Mix everything until well combined.
- Form Patties: Divide the shrimp mixture into equal portions and shape them into burger patties about 1 inch thick, making sure they hold together well.
- Heat the Grill or Pan: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Patties: Place the shrimp patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook each side for 4-5 minutes until the shrimp is fully cooked and the patties are lightly browned.
- Make the Guacamole: While the patties are cooking, prepare the guacamole by mashing the avocado in a bowl. Stir in the finely chopped red onion, minced jalapeño if using, salt, and lime juice until well combined.
- Assemble the Burgers: Toast the burger buns if you like. Place one shrimp patty on the bottom bun and top generously with the freshly made guacamole.
- Add Additional Toppings: Garnish the burgers with lettuce and tomato slices or any other desired toppings to add freshness and crunch.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the shrimp burgers immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Make sure to pulse the shrimp coarsely for best texture; over-processing can make the patties mushy.
- If the mixture feels too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs to help bind the patties.
- Jalapeño is optional and can be adjusted according to your heat preference.
- To keep patties from falling apart, avoid flipping them too often during cooking.
- Use fresh lime juice for maximum flavor in both patties and guacamole.
