Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup of cooked and mashed sweet potato (peeled and boiled)
  • ½ cup of canned or cooked pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
  • 2 cups of rolled oats
  • ¼ cup of peanut butter (unsalted and xylitol-free)

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • A drizzle of honey
  • Chia seeds or flax seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare Sweet Potato: Peel and boil the sweet potato until it is soft. Mash the sweet potato thoroughly and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled mashed sweet potato, pumpkin puree, and peanut butter. Blend until you achieve a smooth consistency.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the rolled oats to the wet mixture, stirring well to integrate. If using optional ingredients like ground cinnamon, chia or flax seeds, and honey, add them now and mix thoroughly.
  4. Form Balls: Using your hands, shape the mixture into small bite-sized balls appropriate for your dog’s size.
  5. Optional Coating: Roll each ball in additional oats if you want a textured outer coating for the treats.
  6. Chill: Place the formed balls on a lined baking sheet or in a container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until they are firm to the touch.
  7. Serve and Store: Serve the treats as desired. Store any remaining balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Ensure peanut butter used is unsalted and does not contain xylitol, as this is toxic to dogs.
  • Adjust the size of the treats based on your dog’s size and chewing ability.
  • Store treats in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze to extend shelf life.
  • Consult your veterinarian before introducing new treats especially if your dog has specific dietary restrictions or health conditions.
