Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Tastefully Simple™ Avocado Oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Tastefully Simple™ Onion Onion Seasoning
  • ½ tsp Tastefully Simple™ Seasoned Pepper
  • 1 cup white long grain rice, uncooked
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • ¾ cup Tastefully Simple™ French Onion Skillet Sauce
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup Gruyére cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. If onions start to burn, lower heat and add a bit more oil.
  2. Cook Ground Beef and Season: Remove caramelized onions to a plate. In the same skillet, add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat. Return skillet to heat and stir in minced garlic, onion seasoning, and seasoned pepper. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add Rice and Liquids: Stir in uncooked rice, beef stock, French Onion Skillet Sauce, frozen peas and carrots, and the caramelized onions. Mix well and bring the entire mixture to a boil.
  4. Simmer: Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover skillet, and let cook for 18 to 20 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  5. Add Cheese and Serve: Fluff the rice and beef mixture with a spoon. Stir in shredded Gruyére cheese until melted and well combined. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • If onions begin to stick or burn during caramelizing, reduce heat and add a splash of water or extra oil.
  • Use low-sodium beef stock to control salt levels.
  • Gruyére cheese can be substituted with mozzarella or cheddar if preferred.
  • Allow the skillet to rest a few minutes off heat before serving for better flavor melding.
  • This meal reheats well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
