Slider Components
- 12 Hawaiian rolls
- 4 ounces sliced ham
- 4 ounces pulled pork
- 4 ounces Swiss cheese
- 12 dill pickle slices
Sauce
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Butter Topping
- 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350˚F (175˚C) to prepare for baking the sliders evenly and thoroughly.
- Prepare the rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally and place the bottom halves cut side up on a baking sheet with edges to catch any drips.
- Spread the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and yellow mustard. Evenly spread this mixture over the cut sides of the bottom halves of the rolls to add tang and moisture.
- Layer the fillings: Place the sliced ham followed by pulled pork evenly on each bottom roll half. Top with a slice of Swiss cheese, then add one dill pickle slice onto each slider. Finally, place the top roll halves back on.
- Prepare the garlic butter: Melt the butter and mix in the garlic salt until well combined. Brush this garlic butter mixture generously over the top of the assembled rolls to add flavor and help with browning.
- Cover and weigh down: Cover the loaded sliders tightly with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. Place a second heavy baking sheet over the foil to weigh down the sliders and encourage even heating and slight pressing together of the layers.
- Bake the sliders: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-14 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sliders are heated through thoroughly.
- Serve warm: Carefully remove the top baking sheet and foil. Cut the sliders apart individually and serve warm to enjoy the perfect melty, savory Cuban-inspired mini sandwiches.
Notes
- For extra authenticity, you can add mustard on the top rolls as well or swap yellow mustard for Dijon for a sharper flavor.
- If you don’t have pulled pork ready, slow cooker or store-bought pulled pork works well for convenience.
- Make sure to cover with foil and weigh down with a baking sheet to ensure thorough heating and melted cheese.
- You can make sliders ahead of time up to assembling and refrigerate; bake just before serving.
- Use Hawaiian rolls for their soft texture and slight sweetness typical of Cuban sliders.
