Tea Base
- 90g Thai tea leaves (e.g., ChaTraMue)
- 1.5 litres boiling water
Milk Mixture
- 397g can sweetened condensed milk (or condensed coconut milk for a vegan option)
- 410g can evaporated milk (or oat milk)
To Serve
- Brew the Tea: Carefully whisk the Thai tea leaves into 1.5 litres of boiling water in a large heatproof bowl. Allow the mixture to steep for 8 minutes to fully extract the rich tea flavor.
- Strain the Tea: Set a sieve over a large jug and line it with muslin cloth. After steeping, carefully pour the tea through the muslin-lined sieve, squeezing gently to extract all the liquid and flavor, being cautious of the hot liquid.
- Mix the Milks: Whisk the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk into the strained tea until well combined, creating a smooth, creamy mixture.
- Chill the Tea: Place the mixed tea in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and serve refreshingly cold.
- Serve: Fill serving glasses or a jug with ice cubes, pour the chilled Thai tea over the ice, and enjoy immediately using reusable straws for an authentic experience.
Notes
- For a vegan version, substitute condensed coconut milk and oat milk for the condensed milk and evaporated milk respectively.
- Use good quality Thai tea leaves like ChaTraMue to achieve the authentic flavor and color.
- Be careful when straining to avoid burns from hot liquid.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of condensed milk if preferred.
- Serve with reusable straws to reduce waste and enhance presentation.
