Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract if using. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Roll and shape: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.
  3. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are set and just beginning to turn golden.
  4. Cool: Remove cookies from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened to room temperature for easy creaming.
  • If you prefer a more robust flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract.
  • Cookies can be decorated with icing or sprinkles once cooled.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week to maintain freshness.
