Crescent Rolls and Sauce
- 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
- 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
- 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 4 tbsp butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
- 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese (for filling)
- 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2–4 tbsp heavy whipping cream
- 1–2 cup grated cheddar cheese (for topping)
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly with butter to prevent sticking and enhance flavor.
- Make the Cheese Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Stir continuously until the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth. Once melted, turn off the stove and set aside.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, blend the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder together using a fork until creamy and well combined. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken, onion, seasoning salt, ground black pepper, 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese, and 2-4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Assemble the Crescents: Unroll the crescent roll dough. Place approximately 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling on the larger end of each crescent triangle. Carefully roll the dough starting from the larger end toward the point, creating a neat crescent shape.
- Layer in Baking Dish: Spread some of the prepared cream of chicken cheese sauce evenly across the bottom of the greased baking dish. Arrange the rolled-up crescent rolls on top of the sauce in a single layer.
- Add Sauce and Cheese Topping: Pour the remaining cream of chicken sauce evenly over the tops of the crescent rolls. Sprinkle 1-2 cups of grated cheddar cheese generously over the entire dish to create a rich, cheesy crust.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese on top is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this comforting and cheesy chicken casserole warm.
Notes
- For a sharper flavor, use aged cheddar cheese in both the sauce and topping.
- Adjust the amount of heavy cream in the filling to achieve desired consistency.
- Ensure chicken is finely chopped for even filling distribution.
- You can substitute cooked shredded rotisserie chicken for convenience.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven to retain crispness.
