Bang Bang Brussels Sprouts Recipe

4.6 from 97 reviews

Crispy air-fried Brussels sprouts seasoned with a flavorful blend of spices and optional panko crumbs, then generously coated in a creamy, spicy bang bang sauce made with Japanese mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and sesame oil. Perfect as a delicious appetizer or a side dish, this recipe uses the air fryer to achieve a crispy texture with minimal oil.

Ingredients

Scale

Brussels Sprouts

  • 1.5 lb Brussels sprouts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if needed)

Seasonings

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp panko crumbs (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for panko, optional)

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 3 tbsp Japanese mayo
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Brussels sprouts. Rinse Brussels sprouts thoroughly and pat dry with a towel. Trim off the ends of each sprout and cut them in half. Cutting in half should remove the outer layer; if not, peel the outer leaves off.
  2. Season the sprouts. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, pepper, and salt. Add the halved Brussels sprouts to the bowl and toss well to evenly coat. If using panko crumbs, sprinkle them over the sprouts and drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil, then toss again to combine.
  3. Air fry the Brussels sprouts. Transfer the coated Brussels sprouts to the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping.
  4. Make the bang bang sauce. While sprouts are cooking, mix Japanese mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and sesame oil in a small bowl until smooth and well combined. Set aside.
  5. Serve. Once the Brussels sprouts are crispy and cooked through, transfer to a serving plate. Drizzle the prepared bang bang sauce evenly over the sprouts. Optionally, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • If the Brussels sprouts are very large, cut the halves into quarters for more even cooking.
  • You can bake these Brussels sprouts in a conventional oven at 400°F (205°C) for 30-35 minutes as an alternative to air frying.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; however, it’s fine to cook the entire batch at once as Brussels sprouts do not need space to crisp well.
  • Ensure Brussels sprouts are thoroughly dried after washing to prevent steaming rather than crisping in the air fryer or oven.
